All Hands On Deck

Dear Safreans, fellow freelance workers in the media/communications fields and my colleagues in the film/tv industry.

I would first like to say hats off to all Safreans. You are our pillar and strength on which our Safrea stands. Hence I always like you to be motivated and enthusiastic.

I sincerely and earnestly thank you for the warm welcome and the congratulatory messages upon my election as new Chairperson of our Safrea. The onboarding process of the new Exco in this month of September went very well.

During my first week as Chair I extended a heartfelt thank you to Lynne Smit, our previous Chair. I am deeply grateful to Lynne and her Exco team and the Oversight Commitee (OSC) for the hard work every one of them has shown. During their tenures, Safrea gained significant milestones. I would also like to give special thanks to our awesome Safrea office staff Thea Abound ( Executive Admin ),

Like Hayward ( Communications Officer ), Vaughan Jones ( Treasurer ) and our Vice Chair Hush Naidoo for their guidance over the first weeks of my chairmanship.

On my second action as Chair I extended a warm welcome to our newest Safrea Exco members. I very much look forward to working with each of these accomplished leaders. The central commitment of my chairmanship is to increase Safrea’s impact by building on the strong foundation laid up in 1999, that is to promote the interests of freelance media specialists, by improving their professional standing and to make working as a freelancer more rewarding. I look forward to maintaining and building upon the success our Safrea has achieved over the past several years. I would like to bring more opportunities for creativity, collaboration with other industry bodies, learning and connection to our freelance community. I want to make sure that our members ( Safreans ) are at the heart of everything that we do.

Fellow media/communication professionals, thank you once again for your support and best wishes. I know that your warm wishes will help me to use my abilities in a better way in the future.

My fellow Safreans let me close by urging you all — Members and “future Members” alike — to be a part of this milestone year and engage with us, amply and often. It's my belief that we currently have the privilege of the strongest EXCO and OSC members in our chapter's history. A perfect mix of raw talent and ambition, with experience and proven leadership, we are poised to help guide our members, and our industry, to a level never before imagined in our freelance community.

It is the tradition of Safrea as our communications officer Lize Hayward shared with me that the incoming chair establishes some high-level priorities for the organization to advance during his or her term. With that in mind, I want you all to take a moment to go through my priorities for the coming year by clicking on the below link: https://safrea.co.za/message-from-the-exco/message-from-the-chair-september-2022

My door is eternally open. You may feel free to contact me at my personal, professional emails. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram are all acceptable. WhatsApp me,text me, call me, come visit me at my studio. I look forward to working with all of you, moving forward. I'm super excited for what the future holds. We are going to reach great heights, and we will do it together.

With gratitude,

Whitemore Masudi Ngwira
